Organelle Returns with New Model S2!

The Organelle is back!

We’re happy to announce the Organelle S2 is out now.

From the outside, the S2 features the same sturdy black metal enclosure as its predecessor, but the insides have been completely redesigned. It now runs on a 1.8GHz quad-core processor — a 50% speed increase over the Organelle S.

The Organelle S2 runs all your favorite patches with ease — and has room to grow. We’re also excited to explore some more advanced possibilities.

There are lots of small improvements too: a new encoder with a smoother feel, better WiFi settings, and even a redesigned SD card slot that prevents the card from slipping into the device.

Very exciting! Is it possible to say whether there is any space inside for a potential battery power mod? (Of course it’s noted that this would void the warrantee).

Also is it possible to say anything about how much stock is available?

So glad to see the Organelle’s return. Although not enough of an upgrade to justify buying when I have the M, I’ve come across a lot of people who would have bought one over the past couple years during its absence.

Any plans for an M2? I take it the S was more popular.

Very nice! Does it use a Raspberry Pi Compute Module? Which one?

Hmmm. Seems it’s already out of stock.

Thanks for the note - just updated the website with more.

Yes, it uses the Raspberry Pi CM4, which comes in a variety of options. The S2 uses the 1GB RAM version, without WiFi.

We wanted to get the elemental version back in stock first (where it can hopefully remain in stock more easily). We don’t have anything in the pipeline for a M2 at the moment, but always good to know there is excitement about the M!

Nice that you’re using the CM4. I wonder if I could get away with replacing the one you provide with one with more memory and Wi-Fi? In any case, I have an S2 on order and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. Thanks for bringing the Organelle back!

…we forgot to mention that there’s a screen saver for the OLED on the S2. Here’s a video of it:

Might we see a corresponding update of the OS with a newer version of PD?

I likewise am curious about what version of PD this will run, and whether or not there will be regular updates for the OS. I managed to update my OG M to PD 0.54, but that means I’m now making patches that some people can’t use on their Organelles, which makes me feel like a greedy patch hoarder

Does C&G have their sources on GitHub? If so maybe it would be possible to submit a pull request. This would allow community members to contribute to the official code base.

The Organelle OS source code is here: GitHub - critterandguitari/Organelle_OS

This is the source for the main menu program and hardware interface. The rest of the software (like Pd) is part of the underlying Linux environment and is standard unmodified versions. On the Organelle S2 it is version .53

Thanks for posting the link!

Yay nice! Maybe it’s time to upgrade my trusty OG1 from 2019! Is there a release note of the OS between 4.0 up to 4.4? What’s new? I guess all the available patches are compatible right @chrisk?

I got my Organelle S2 today. It looks great! I’m glad to see it includes a microphone. My old original Organelle didn’t. The one thing I was a bit disappointed in was that it still uses a 9V barrel jack for power, I would think it would be better to use USB C so a battery operated unit could be created by just plugging in a cell phone power brick.

fwiw I grabbed one of these ripcord USB things a while back and I can power my M for a surprisingly long time on a USB battery

Will the S2 bei available in european music stores, e.g. Thomann or MusicStore?

How does it react with Multiprocessor or heavy patches?

Looks great, do you know when will it be available to buy in the UK?
