We’re excited to announce the release of Organelle OS v5, a major update bringing new patches, a more powerful browser-based editor, and up-to-date software!
What’s New in OS v5?
Organelle M / S / S2 Support - This release supports all recent Organelle hardware: Organelle M, Organelle S, and the new Organelle S2.
PLAY & EXPLORE Categories - Factory patches are now organized into two folders. PLAY holds the 8 new synth patches. EXPLORE holds the full library of 100+ original patches covering all the territory the Organelle is known for. These categories are just folders and can be removed.
PLAY Patches - 8 new synthesizer patches designed to be immediately playable. These are a great starting point if you are new to the Organelle
Improved WiFi Support - Better compatibility with a wider range of USB WiFi adapters.
Web Editor - Edit and compile code files directly in the browser, with an error console so you can see what’s happening when something goes wrong.
Web Terminal - Built-in terminal for low-level access when you need it.
New Software - All system software is updated. New software installed including Lua, Chuck, and Faust.
Organelle OS v5 is available now! Download the new OS and follow the instructions to upgrade your device. This update works for Organelle models M, S, and S2. Unfortunately Organelle 1 (original Organelle) is not supported.
This looks like a VERY interesting update! I haven’t flashed it to an SD card yet, since I’m currently in the middle of an Organelle patch project, but I plan to do so as soon as I’m done with that.
I just looked at the documentation, and the control layout of the PLAY patches reminds me a lot of the 201 Pocket Piano. Will it eventually be possible to use pattern functionality like on the 201PP and write own PLAY patches?
Since there is no update for the original Organelle 1, and I have also provided patches with a modified mother.pd in the past: Would a patch created using a modified mother.pd from version 4.2 or 5.0 also work on an original Organelle 1?
However, I have problems with the wifi AP mode: none of my devices are able to connect to the ORGANELLE network using the preconfigured password coolmusic.
And also another observation: the web interface seems to be opened only by typing the Organelle’s IP address instead of the handy URL http://organellem.local as it was before.
It would be nice to know if the old patches, especially ORAC2 are still compatible. I noticed the missing data folder from my previous file system.
I’ve noticed on some of my devices it also doesn’t connect. The password hasn’t changed, so it could be something with the AP security settings, we’ll have to investigate.
Yes, I meant to make a note of this. I was also having trouble enabling the host name service, so IP is the best way to connect for now.
This shouldn’t be a problem. There weren’t any changes made to mother.pd or how Pd communicates with the hardware (the OSC messages are all the same)
Mostly the Organelle 1 was left out because bringing all the software up to date would have been a large undertaking, and the new patches are more CPU intensive and won’t run well on the older hardware anyway.
This may be a dumb question. If I flash a new SD card, can I swap SD cards back and forth to have the old OS and my old patches/configuration on one, and OS5 and the new setup on another? Thanks!!
I flashed a new SD card, and everything works great. TBH…the PLAY function on OS5 is an INSTANT win!! Once I move over my old patches…I’ll probably never go back. I am super impressed with only 20 mins in on OS5.
If anyone has doubts…this update is like an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for the Organelle. Excellent update - super excited! Thanks C&G for this generous update!
This is awesome, thanks and congrats on the release! Looking forward to trying it out. Just from reading the notes here, seems like some quite useful updates and features.
Since I figure others might search like I did just now: what pd version is in Organelle OS v5?
