Orhack (beta)

The problem is that Link in the Organelle only send/receive tempo information and not transport start/stop, so it’s pretty much useless atm.

I’m not familiar with Norns but in case it has Midi in/out ports or class compliant MIDI over USB, I think that would be the way to go.

the advantage / reason about not getting transport controls in link is that every client can join / leave without problems. (and without the need to determine master/slave). you could still get the start/stop from midi though.

Probably me just being dumb but I can’t figure out how to keep clips after I record them. I press aux quickly to arm, record a quick loop, play the clip back, but when I press aux and second black key for clip2 I lose clip1. Am I missing a step? Overdrum and overflow work amazingly but I was trying polyphonic sequencing with clips but I must be doing something wrong.

I’m on the latest version of orhack from a few days ago. v0.52

Try saving the preset (global Orhack preset) as a new preset and then try again, does it work then?

That did the trick. Thank you

Good to know, that is a known bug and will be fixed on the next update.

I’m pushing it trying to see what’s all possible. I’ve been using Orac for a couple of years now and 0rhack has been providing all the little things that Orac could benefit from. The more I learn it, the closer I am to making another tutorial video. My last Orac vid was ok but I can do better and I actually only use 0rhack now so it’ll be good to make another video and show people your work. I’ll make sure to give credit to everyone involved. Your tutorial is great, thanks!

All the original ORAC patches will work without modifications! Except for modulation modules which should be made with the new learn/unlearn logic in mind in order to work properly with it.

Hey, I’m finding that a lot of the ORAC synths aren’t working in orhack – trying Rhodey, rampsynth, basicpoly, and analogstyle.

Hey, still learning the patch but its so cool!
Whenever I load the fission or percussions instruments into one of the chains there aren’t any sounds playing, but loading any of the synth instruments works just fine. Is there something i’m missing when loading them/making them functional?

Got an Organelle M!

There are only a couple of keys that create sound when using fission. Usually it is meant to be sequenced with Overdrum. Percussions is a sampler so you need to have some samples of your own to put in the kits. Hold aux and click a key to choose kit 1 - 24

I presume you mean the first 8 white keys on fission? Those don’t have any sound, and i’ve tried using overdrum to sequence but still no sound  .
Thanks for the info on Percussions! Do you know how i can input my own samples? are there like folders for each kit or do i have to go into pd to do it?

No need to go into pd. I cant remember if you place the samples in /media/samples/kit-1 or /media/orhack/kits but its one of those two. I know Percussions+ uses the first option but im not sure about the regular Percussions module

Anyone know if it’s possible to use overdrum with samples? Or is this a feature request? I guess it would need to be a module that worked like fission but with sample slots (or maybe just used the first 7 samples from whatever kit you load)…

I was having trouble getting samples to load with percussions also, so I renamed the module percussionsorhack, and copied the percussions module from my orac user modules into the orhack user modules folder (sd card/media/orhack/user-modules/instruments/drum). So when I use that module now it works and references the same sample kits it referenced in orac. Fine workaround for now…

I also figured out that the overdrum module works with the fusion module if you copy that from orac over to orhack, the only caveat being it doesn’t respond to velocity. Nice to have a lower cpu option though for such an awesome sequencer!

edit: particularly confusing is that there is a samples folder in sdcard/media/orhack, but also a samples folder in sdcard/media <<----- the one that the orac percussions patch references

Percussions will work with Overflow not Overdrum.

I am aware that sampler’s paths are mostly broken, I just didn’t use them enough to figure this stuff out…

That’s great to hear - I just wanted to document what I found in case others want to use samples

It’s really awesome that you’ve made this, so I just want to be clear I’m really thankful for having it to play with, and I actually sometimes enjoy when things are a little broken because it’s exciting to figure out a way to make it work! Overdrum, for me, actually DOES currently work with the orac version of percussions, so people can use that in the meantime if they want to sample using that style of sequencer

Just to add - if you’re going to use samples with orhack with the above method, you need to skip the black key numbers when naming your samples. Also, not sure if this is true across all organelle patches, but I’m noticing that mono samples only play out of the left output with the percussions module - if anyone knows of a way to fix this in the module, I’d be glad to take a stab at it.

Also curious @Audivit is there something fairly simple I can do to get velocity to work with fusion, the way it does with fission?

Try by adding this to each fusion voice…

I am playing a show where I am also using the Organelle with ORAC next month, but that would certainly make everything easier. Is there a release date yet?..
