I’m trying to use a controller (Akai MPD218) to change programs (modes) on the Eyesy. I’m sending program change commands on midi channel 1 but it isn’t doing anything consistently, well it worked two times and then stopped and haven’t been able to get it to work since. The knobs sending correctly mapped CC messages also don’t work consistently. Any known issues with these features or maybe some tips to help me get it working? Perhaps this controller doesn’t work reliably with the Eyesy, can I get some similar recommendations that are known to work well? I want knobs and some pads change scenes or modes that’s all.
Hi, could you explain this quote a little more please? …
…it worked to change the mode twice? or it worked on two different occasions/sessions (presumably with multiple mode changes during each session)? or something else?
One thing to check is that the MPD218 is showing up on the MIDI Settings page of the On-Screen Menu (available by pressing Shift + On-Screen Display (OSD) Button). Here’s a screenshot of that page showing the CME XKey keyboard connected/recognized by the EYESY (last line of text):
Please note:
- if the controller is connected to the EYESY after the EYESY boots up, it will not be recognized!
- If you need to connect your controller after you boot up, you don’t need to cycle the power. Instead, after connecting controller, navigate to the System page of the On-Screen Menu and select Restart Video command. Then view the MIDI Settings page to confirm connection.
In one session two of the pads I pressed to send program change successfully resulted in a mode change. None of the other pads changed modes and shortly after even there pads that worked stopped working and I haven’t been able to get reliable results since. Sometimes a knob works. Usually it doesn’t.
Yes it does show up on the osd.
To clarify, the MIDI Program Change Mapping only applies to Scenes:
How many Scenes do you have saved?
oh so if i send it a program change “12” then i need to have a scene 12? I think I have like 8 scenes maybe I’ll check. I’m fine if the feature is just scenes I’ll test it again. But the issue was NONE of the pads or knobs worked consistently.
