8pin DIN analog input into organelle

Hello I’m a violinist and I’ve been exploring using the violin as a controller for synths. I’ve had issues with phantom triggers and feedback on my acoustic instrument on loud gigs and soundscapes so I’m looking for a hardware solution to that, with the best option I’ve found for what I want to do is so called “MIDI” violins.

What these violins actually do is output (via an 8-Pin DIN cable) a separate analog signal for each string (5 in this case). I want to then find a way to get this signal into pure data in the organelle to be able to patch with the diferentiated inputs from each string to be able to make the synths be polyphonic, as opposed to now where sigmund freaks out if I do double stops.

I’ve thought about maybe using an audio interface and connecting it to the organelle but I still don’t see how I would then separate each line, or if I would be able to process it correctly as it would have to be plugged into a MIDI input(right??).

Anyways any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

when you wrote “separate analog signal per string” I assume that’s audio, not midi. so yeah. you would need a multichannel soundcard and then run sigmund per string / Adc~ input.. Luckily for you. Miller made and shared an augmented guitar patch that you could easily modify and “midify” : https://msp.ucsd.edu/smeck/latest/doc/index.htm

Is this what you’re thinking of using? There are transducers for each string, but not sure if there are individual outputs for each string…

Cantini Electric Instruments — Earphonic - 5 Strings it’s this, the output is an 8pin DIN with a pin for each string’s output. I checked out servandob’s article and it talks about a possible solution, the stringport, allthough it is discontinued and I don’t know if there is another option as simple as this one.

Have you reached out to the violin maker to see if they know how to best get the individual violin strings into a computer?
