Hey @Audivit,
The ‘patterns’ in the sequencers you made work so well I already miss the function in the other sequencers hah!
I’m trying to make a bit of a workaround by mapping Polystep’s ‘play’ knob to Morpher.
It works fine whilst Morpher’s learn focus is activated but once I deactivate it, it stops working. When I navigate to Polystep the ‘play’ parameter is just quickly flickering between on & off. Any idea if I can get this working? Would be cool to have the sequencer to play sort of like an Ableton scene by morphing from one preset to another.

That is most likely because you have accidentally mapped the parameter to an LFO, the important thing about the new learn method is that one should always remember to activate the learn focus on the desired mod source before activating the mod learn in the main menu, otherwise like in the original Orac, you don’t know which mod source you’re assigning to the parameter.

Always activate the learn focus on your mod source, then navigate to the desired destination parameter page, open the main menu and activate mod learn, map your parameter and repeat the steps backwards.

Also is very important that you use all the modulation modules included in Orhack, other modules are not supported with the new learn/unlearn method.

I know it’s a bit convoluted and definitely not as friendly as a mod matrix, but compared to the old method, with this new method we gain complete control over the learn/unlearn process and we can avoid messing all up by following the steps.

Love the hard work you’ve put in to this! I’ve been messing around with Orhack for a couple of days, but i don’t understand how to unlearn a lfo or the other modulation sources.

Unlearn modulations (es. LFO 1):

  • press and hold aux while on the “LFO 1” module page (red LED blinking and <<<< LFO 1 >>>> message on top of the screen indicates that the unlearn focus is now on LFO 1.
  • navigate to the desired parameter you want to unlearn.
  • activate mod learn from the main menu.
  • move the desired parameter. Unlearn done!
  • disable mod learn from the main menu.
  • disable the focus on LFO 1 by holding the aux button untill the red LED stop blinking.

Anyone have any tips for optimizing flow and preventing the crackling at high CPU usage? I’m not familiar with which modules are high-intensive vs low-intensive

Anything that is not indicated with a + in the module name will run on the main Pure Data thread which will cause high CPU usage. To divide up more work between cores, use the + (multi core) patches whenever possible. Especially synthesizers.

Generally synthesizers are the main hogs but reverbs can also be intensive. Most effects aren’t terribly intensive but they are all single threaded and will run on the same core.

Most Mutable Instruments ported effects are also intensive like elements and clouds.

If you are looking for a way to quickly port a single threaded module to multicore, check out @WyrdAl multi core wrapper but it will not work for every module

Does anyone else have problems with the polytwig module? i’ve tried a lot of things but can’t get any sound out of it. don’t know if i’m missing something.

I’m having issues reusing Morpher presets. Setting parameters, saving to slots and loading them all works fine. But once I close Orhack preset it’s basically lost. I can still see that the parameters are set after loading, but after starting the Transporter clock and going back to the Morpher module it overwrites everything with zeros. Am I missing something here? For my use case I actually wouldn’t need the clock to run, so having a way to switch between Morpher slots without it would be a workaround for me.

Morpher doesn’t currently save presets automatically, you have to save them by holding aux button and then selecting the slot in which you want to save them, then you save the Orhack global preset “project” from the main menu.

Is anyone using the “spectral warper” module on ørhack or orac who’s, like me, deploring the clipping even with only two modules in the rack ?
I love this module but i can’t use it because of its cpu consumption. Is it possible to make a “spectral warper+” version using multicore ?

That’s definitely possible. Check this out and see if you’re able to wrap it with this.

If doesn’t work, then it may require a full multi core reworking.

Due to a change in the empty module If you want to use presets made in earlier versions of Orhack beta, you should unload and reload each -empty- modules and then resave the preset.

Alternatively you can modify the desired preset JSON file within the preset folder and change all the -empty- modules “thru_gain” values from 0 to 100.

NEW MODULES

Polyphonic Sequencer:

“Clips” is a (transport synced) midi loop sequencer based on electrafa’s “Sequences”, it has been modified and simplified to fit ORHACK workflow, including the addition of 10 pattern slots controllable from the transport module.

Clips Instructions:

  • Press Aux quickly to arm recording
  • Press & Hold Aux briefly to abort armed recording, play the current sequence or to end a recording.
  • Press & Holding Aux + Any black key to select a pattern.
  • Press & Holding Aux + First white key to Undo last recording.
  • Press & Holding Aux + Last white key to empty current pattern.

Mastering EQ / Stereo Enhancer:

“Marginal” is a new master audio effect inspired by classic Pultec eq curves, including a stereo enhancer designed to give new life to your ORHACK master chain, remove muddiness and widen the stereo image.

Use it in conjunction with “Bus Comp” for a killer master chain!

Generation Floss Effect:

“Gen Floss” is a dirty tape emulation inspired by the famous Generation Loss.

Includes 5 selectable drive types, 5 selectable loss types, 3 selectable types of modulated noise and fully adjustable amount of tape artefacts.

NEW FEATURES

Automatic Latency Compensation:

Multicore instruments and effects utilising PD~ subprocess method are now independently latency compensated,

This means no more timing mismatch between normal sequencing modules and PD~ modules when transport is playing.

Arrangement Mode:

Transport module now has a dedicated “arrangement mode”, the 10 patterns in each sequencer within a chain can now be freely assigned to each transport global pattern.

Example:

  • Chain A (Overdrum: patterns available 1 to 10)
  • Chain B (Clips: patterns available 1 to 10)
  • Chain C (Overflow: patterns available 1 to 10)
  • Chain D (Clips: patterns available 1 to 10)

Transport Global Pattern 1 ->[ Chain A : Pattern 2, Chain B: Pattern 6, Chain C: Pattern 3, Chain D: Pattern 1]…

Transport Global Pattern 2 ->[ Chain A : Pattern 2, Chain B: Pattern 3, Chain C: Pattern 1, Chain D: Pattern 2]…

This allows to create full arrangements by using repeating patterns and empty patterns.

You can view the patterns within a sequencer as a collection of clips without the need to be in sequential order, instead you can decide the order within the “transport” module global patterns.

VARIOUS

  • “bitcrush”, “clip” & “tanh” modules ported to stereo.
  • “r-thru-gain” deprecated from hybrid router module.
  • Various minor fixes.

Sorry, but i get the “Install FAILED, Files corrupt”-Message when trying to install the new *.zop after uploading it to the patches folder…

It wasn’t nothing to worry about, Orhack should still be installed correctly, just some annoying “.DS_Store” hidden files left from my mac. But if you want to retry, now it’s fixed :slight_smile:
