Other instruments

Via @nicovr I have just learned about the Wingie 2, a very cool sounding thing, with something of a C&G vibe about it

It made me wonder if there are other instruments ppl like that have a C&G vibe…

What I love most about C&G instruments is their immediacy, design/feel, and fun … I actually haven’t come across much else like this, but maybe other such instruments do exist out there?! I’d be curious if ppl have come across things, and or stuff that’s complementary with C&G gear

Cheers!

Look into the Monome Norns ecosystem. Monome is a small, New York based company making bespoke synthesizer systems. Norns is open source, community-driven, and changed the way I personally think about “computer music”. DIY versions (“shields” or “fates”) are less cost-prohibitive than the Monome-manufactured (“stock”) Norns. As someone who owns a few of each unit, they’re both well worth it.

Wow, yes you’re right.

I came across the Norns before but the depth of programming scared me off a bit, not having a head for that. I didn’t clock how immediate and intuitive it could be as well. It looks amazing to dive into.

Programming isn’t so, so key to the Monome Norns ecosystem that it gatekeeps the focus of Playability. It helps to know enough to get around, but I myself am a Luddite when it comes to coding.
