TightVNC and OS 5.1 on Organelle S2

Trying to get VNC working (using Tight VNC viewer on a Windows 10 machine, with Organelle OS 5.1), and keep getting this message when I try to connect: “Error in TightVNC Viewer: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.” According to the Organelle, the VNC server is running (at 1920x1080, which is my screen resolution…). Any ideas?

Hi - we haven’t used TightVNC. Are you adding “:5901” to the end of IP address like this: 123.456.789.12:5901
…and using ‘music’ as user & password?

Tried with the :5901 on the IP address (BTW, looked through all the documentation on the C&G site and couldn’t find that mentioned anywhere… just saying…), and got a different error message: “No security types supported. Server sent security types but we do not support any of them.” I’m reluctant to use Real VNC as it appears to be a subscription based model, but I’ll give it a go on that and see if it works for comparison.

Further to that, Real VNC works, so it’s obviously a problem with Tight. I’ll just have to bite the bullet and use Real, I guess. Thanks for your time anyway!

RealVNC Viewer does not require a subscription.

We’ll update the manual. Thanks for this note.

There are some threads on other rPi forums about changing some config settings to use Tight VNC. Since RealVNC works, probably just easier to use it (as you have found).

Thanks for that, Chris. You’re right, the Real viewer doesn’t seem to require a subscription. I’d mis-read their site. My bad! Appreciate your time on this, though. Cheers!
