New Organelle OS v5

You can grab the PLAY patches here:

They will work on any Organelle S2, but for model M and S you will need new OS.

Thanks C&G , really enjoying the update and think the play patches are really great!

Is it just me, or are these new play patches not reading midi clock sync? I get sync in other patches ok. Midi out of 201 to midi in of organelle. thanks again, really love the update!

Haven’t updated the OS yet (need to backup all my custom stuff) but just wanted to say thank you for providing the PLAY patches separately, I installed those and they work fine on my S2 and are super fun and very playable as described!

Yeah that is currently a problem… working on fixing it now, should have something soon!

Really liking the in-built faust compiler and web server features. Makes it really easy to knock up a quick patch.

Thanks for doing an upgrade for the wonderful Organelle!

Right now I have the new OS installed on another SD-card to try it out on my Organelle M. Before I had all patches on an USB-stick and that is how I like to have it. How do I have to do to get it like that again?

Although I don´t really see any difference for me except for the new PLAY patches that seems to not work in my old 4.0 system. Why is it so? I thought all PD patches should just work fine on the M-model, that would have been nice and logical.

I don´t use wireless or any web-related things with my Organelle so I guess the only thing with the new OS would really be just the new PLAY-patches or is there something else that I don´t undersood? It seems to start up as slow as before and all other things seems the same to me (?).

Just to point it out though, my Organell is the best musical investment ever anyway!!

Overall, this is a really well-rounded and cool update - thank you very much for it! There’s just one thing that’s really bothering me: I can’t seem to change the VNC resolution to 2560x1440 – under OS 4.2, this was relatively easy to do by changing the line vncserver -geometry 1920x1080 to vncserver -geometry 2560x1440 in vnc-start.sh.

Unfortunately, after a reboot, the VNC resolution still remains at 1920x1080. In raspi-config the max option for VNC resolution is 1920x1080. I also added video=HDMI-A-1:2560x1440M@60D to the beginning of the line in /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt, but that didn’t make a difference either. Does anyone have any further ideas?

This is covered in the manual section 4.2.

The PLAY patches require a newer version of Pure Data than the version installed in OS 4.0.

Thanks for the instructions on flashing a new sd card.
I’ve now been inside the Org twice retrieving the little bugger!

Thanks for this info. Is this Organelle M/S or S2? I’ll add it to the little list of fixes.

Hi @oweno, thanks for your swift reply and for looking into this! I’m on an Organelle M.

Hello, Looking forward to updating my Organelle! Sorry If I’m being really stupid, what’s the best way for me to backup my current Organelle state & then install the patches back in the new OS once it’s installed please? or will my patches still be there?

Any updates on coolmusic password for OS 5? The only way I have added patches is via the AP - is such a seamless process for me!

@kevingilmoreart there is an improved method for joining existing networks from the Organelle’s WiFi menu. Instructions are in manual section 5.1.

What version of Etcher are you using, did you try latest version? I was just using 2.1.4 on a newer Mac. Is there any error message, or it isn’t possible to select the .zip it at all?

That is strange. Even if I run Etcher with nothing attached (no card reader), I am still able to select a file…

The Raspberry Pi Imager is another option for flashing cards. I just tried it and it works similarly. I had to reinsert the card reader to get it to show up (also happens in Etcher). You can download here:

https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/

Skip the Device step, and in step two, scroll down to the bottom of the list and choose “Use custom” to select the image file.

In the new Play patches, I struggle to record/play something as a loop without stopping a bit between the repeats. No matter where I try to end the record, I cannot make it loop seamlessly. Is there any quantization happening there?

I usually don’t have this issue with other loopers, so I don’t think it’s my fault

Yes, the loop length is quantized to quarter note, so you need to play along with the metronome (shift + high G# to enable) to get a seamless loop.

Also when starting a loop, it will wait for next quarter note so it launches in time.

Thanks for the info. Few weeks ago I updated to 4.2 and etcher didn’t work back then so I used the raspberry software and it worked. This time it gave me error messages (last night). Will try again tonight and see

I had so much fun playing with the patches, that I didn’t even notice there is a metronome  Thank you
