New Organelle user - mic preparation

I finally pulled the trigger, specifically on an S2. Before it gets in the mail, I wanted to check all my boxes in terms of what I need to make sure I’m not frustrated when I want to rip open the box and start playing.

I essentially will be using it as a sampler before most things. Planning on using it in live settings, to paint sound in between and over top of songs playing from my laptop/Ableton.

I also really want to use it as a vocal sampler where I can capture and reverse vocals live. My biggest worry now is the questions I see about microphone signal not getting enough volume and having to rely on boosting it via a preamp. Is that something that is needed in terms of vocal processing within the organelle?

Excited to join the community and happy I pulled the trigger regardless. Patiently awaiting the package.

heyya, just looking in the manual, it says:

  • The L + R(left and right) In port is a 1/4" TRS stereo line in jack. It receives any stereo audio input that you would like fed into your current patch. This port is expecting a line-level input. Connecting it to a mono balanced output may yield a muted/cancelled signal.

NOTE: If a 1/4" TS (mono) cable is connected, any incoming signal will only be received by the left input.

  • The ::: input select switch sets the audio input for the Organelle. In the left position, only the sound from the 1/4" TRS input will be sent to the current patch. In the right position, only the sound of the built-in microphone on the front panel will be sent to the current patch.

A bit further on under 2.2 config ideas, it doesn’t say mics need level boosting but I am assuming that wld be the case - depending entirely on what mic u are using. Organelle doesn’t provide phantom power. But if u were using a dynamic vocal mic eg shure sm58 then having a small mixer to gain/level it up cld be handy. That wld also enable u to mute/unmute the mic &/or add fx.

U cld of course just scream into the inbuilt mic!
